We believe knowledge is power, especially in an emerging industry. As such, it is crucial to connect people with open source educational resources and increase learning opportunities in the space – and that’s just what we do. Take a look at some of our educational programs.
We start accredited blockchain courses at universities in the states because a blockchain education is an onramp to adoption. We aim to improve access to educational material by building university curriculums, hosting conferences, and offering free online courses and recorded infosessions to all our members.
Our university-affiliated blockchain clubs are doing great work utilizing high-quality human capital - it is advantageous that we encourage collaboration and ensure that best practices and industry contacts are shared during our events and conferences.
We believe in making blockchain conferences accessible to all students. We offer free or discounted tickets and subsidized housing options to ensure financial constraints don't limit participation. Additionally, we host student summits within conferences, providing tailored programming and networking opportunities. Our goal is to empower students to engage with industry leaders and cutting-edge technologies, fostering the next generation of blockchain innovators.
At BAF, we are passionate about nurturing the next generation of blockchain innovators through our collaboration with student hackathons. By actively participating in these events, we provide invaluable support and resources to students, including mentorship, technical guidance, and access to our network of industry experts.
We are building an ontology learning tool with techniques from formal concept analysis, to classify academic research being done in the universities across the BAF network. We do so to detect and identify research trends and potentially facilitate collaboration between researchers working in related capacities.

In this event, we discussed the so-called "blockchain trilemma", the problem central to the design of any blockchain. This trade-off among scalability, security, and decentralization means that to optimize for one of these parameters necessarily requires compromising on the others. We examined the trilemma with esteemed guest Dr. Silvio Micali, founder of Algorand. During this one-hour presentation and discussion, we explored the trilemma, review Dr. Micali’s influential research creating zero-knowledge proofs, and hear about the Algorand blockchain’s “pure proof-of-stake” solution.
